Welcome to Week 2!
This week we start training the two core skills at the foundation of our perception – attention and awareness.
You probably already have the intuition that mediation is good for training attentional skills, but training awareness is also possible and equally (if not more) important.
What’s the difference?
Turns out we have two distinct ways of processing information – attention which is focused and narrow and awareness which is open and inclusive. A healthy mind is one that has a balance between these two capacities, allowing for sharp concentrated focus at the same time as a wide open, contextualising, spacious awareness.
We cover this in detail during the sessions, but for anyone who can not make it, I summarise the key points in this video. Below you’ll also find a guided meditation you can use during the week. As always, if you have any questions please post them to the Teams channel.
